The application shall state the name, address,occupation of the applicant, and it shall carry endorsement of two members in good standing.Accompanying the application, the prospective member shall submit dues for payment for the current year. All applications are to be filed with the Membership Chair and the application is to be read at the next General Meeting of the Club following its receipt. After the Membership Chair has published the name of the applicant in the Club’s newsletter, the application will be reviewed at the next Board Meeting and recommendation will be made to the membership at the next general meeting and membership will vote at said meeting, Affirmative votes of 2/3 of the membership present will be required and voting by secret ballot at that meeting shall be required to elect the applicant. Applicants for membership who have been rejected by the Club may re-apply after six months after the rejection. CODE OF ETHICS I. PURPOSE - In Rottweiler breeding the emphasis shall be placed upon the working ability and other outstanding qualities of this breed, as well as upon appearance; to protect and advance the interest of the breed by maintaining high breeding standards both in conformation and temperament; to promote temperament testing, encourage sportsmanlike competition and conduct at dog shows, field and obedience trials, and any club function. I understand and agree that to breed unadvisedly may lead to overpopulation and contribute materially to deterioration of the Rottweiler Breed. Consistent with the aforementioned, I will agree to breed discriminately, and only upon strong evidence of finding suitable homes for the resultant puppies. 2. HEALTH- I agree to maintain good standards of health and care of my dogs, including proper veterinary care. I further agree that proper mental health includes regular contact with people and exposure to the outside world. I understand the importance of good, stable temperament in the Rottweiler breed, therefore I will endeavor to attain a temperament evaluation (Canine Good Citizens, Temperament Test, Breed Suitability Test). 3. RECORDS- I agree that if I breed my bitch or use my stud in service, to keep accurate records of stock, mating and pedigrees, and to register my breeding stock with the American Kennel Club. When appropriate, AKC limited registration procedures will be followed and the buyer will be advised in writing of the restrictions of the type of registration. 4. BREEDING - As a breeder I will make a sincere effort to see that every dog placed will have an adequate home and be properly cared for. I agree to only breed normal, healthy, brucellosis-free animals which 1. have reached two years of age and 2. received their OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) certification, 3. received their CERF (Canine Eye Registration Foundation) certification, 4. tested clear to VWD (von Willebrand's Disease) blood disease, and 5. exhibit no disqualifying faults and no radical departures from the official AKC Rottweiler Standard. 6. (Heart, elbow and thyroid testing are recommended). I will further agree that, should I breed from lines in which I am knowledgeable that any disqualifying faults occur, I will disclose this to my buyers. AS OWNER OF THE BITCH I will not permit my bitch to produce litters in three successive seasons. I agree to cull deformed puppies and those, which deviate substantially from the official AKC Rottweiler Standard. 1 agree to take the responsibility for any resultant puppy of my breeding from birth to death, including fostering the dog until another proper home is found if necessary. AS OWNER OF THE STUD I will encourage bitch owners to breed only if they have facilities, time and resources to adequately care for a litter. I will refuse stud service to any bitch that does not conform to the criteria as outlined above or which I consider to be in poor health. I will follow the custom to allow one repeat service (at the bitches next season) where the bitch has tailed to conceive after being bred to one of my studs, if the stud is still in good health and available, and at such time and place as mutually agreed to by the owner of the bitch and myself. I will make a sincere effort to see that a reasonable portion of the anticipated litter by the Breeder's own bitch or that resulted from the use of the Breeder's stud dog is suitably spoken to before a breeding takes place. 5. SALES - I will refuse to recommend breeders who sell to dog wholesalers and retailers (such as pet shops), or to donate a Rottweiler or stud service for raffle purposes, or to sell or buy in litter lots. Any contract/written agreement will clearly state to the buyer of a puppy or adult Rottweiler whether the sale is of a potentially breedable, showable or nonshowable (pet) dog. I will pass on to the buyers of puppies or adult dog accurate health, breeding and registration records and a four generation pedigree. AKC registration papers may be withheld, or AKC limited registration procedures followed on a dog which may be suspect of carrying a disqualifying fault, making it detrimental for breeding purposes or until the dog has proved otherwise, or rendered incapable of reproducing (per veterinary letter). It is recommended that members follow the general practice of breeders, that any puppy sold as a show prospect which subsequently develops a disqualifying defect (thereby rendering the dog unsuitable for breeding) shall be (1) replaced by the breeder with another show prospect puppy sold as a show prospect, or (2) the money refunded to the extent of the difference between a show prospect and pet puppy. If I consider a co-ownership of a puppy or adult Rottweiler, I will carefully consider the terms, responsibilities and liabilities that a co-ownership would entail. I will fully explain these factors to the buyer. It is recommended that terms of co-ownership are detailed in a written contract, with the signatures of all parties on the contract provided to the buyer. I will not release puppies before they are 7 weeks of age, and then only with the full knowledge that they are healthy and have had the required inoculations and care. I will urge my puppy purchasers to provide obedience training at the proper age. I will refuse to sell to any home where I have reason to believe a Rottweiler will not be properly cared for. 6. ADVERTISING - I agree that my advertising, oral or written, shall be factual and not worded so as to attract undesirable buyers, or to encourage the raising of pure-breed Rottweilers as an easy money scheme. 7. SPORTSMANSHIP- I shall conduct myself at all times in a manner which will reflect credit upon me and the breed, regardless of the location or circumstances, but especially when attending a dog show, whether as an exhibitor or as a spectator. It is recommended this conduct follow through at club functions. 8.
